UT Tyler Moves Beyond "An Expensive Note-Taking Platform" to a Student Success Partner

UT Tyler replaced an outdated student success platform that functioned primarily as a note-taking tool with Civitas Learning to enable real-time, actionable insights and proactive student support. A cross-functional evaluation committee prioritized proven integrations, daily data updates, accessibility compliance, and institutional data ownership. The selection aligned with the university's strategic priorities around student success, teaching excellence, and community impact.

The challenge

The existing solution was described as “the most expensive note-taking platform” that lacked real-time insights and integrations needed for proactive student support and retention improvement.

The approach

A cross-functional committee built a rigorous evaluation process with specific criteria: proven integrations (Canvas, Anthology Engagement, Maxient, Handshake), daily real-time data updates, institution-specific data ownership, accessibility compliance, and clear cost value. UT Tyler evaluated five to six vendors before selecting finalists.

In their words

“The Civitas Learning team made sure we had clarity at every step, walking us through the process and ensuring we had what we needed to move forward.”
